Choosing the right ISRN journal

ISRN Journals publish articles in a variety of disciplines. Therefore, it is crucial to first identify the type of journal that will best suit your needs. This will be done by reading about the scope of each journal and then choosing the one that best fits your research topic. This will ensure timely publication of your manuscripts because it will be in the right journal to begin with.

What ISRN Journals publishes (article types)

ISRN Journals publish: Original research articles, review articles, short communications, case studies (where applicable), methodological articles, applied research articles, policy articles (depending on scope), etc. The type of article must match that of the journal’s page.

Manuscript structure

A well-written manuscript must be well-organized and professionally structured. Therefore, it is expected that a manuscript published in an ISRN Journal will comprise:

  • Title (informative, searchable),
  • Author information,
  • Abstract,
  • Keywords,
  • Introduction,
  • Methods/Materials,
  • Results,
  • Discussion,
  • Conclusion,
  • Reference list,
  • Tables/Figures,
  • Appendices/Supplementary Materials (where applicable).

Abstract and keywords (SEO and indexing strength)

The abstract must contain a concise description of the purpose, methodology, main results, and conclusion in an academic style. The keywords must contain relevant terms from the field of research and popular search terms to increase visibility.

Formatting expectations

ISRN Journals accept articles in common word processing document formats (Microsoft Word, etc.). The text must be clear and consistent in its formatting, with clear headings, correctly numbered tables and figures, and a consistent reference style. The figures must also be clear with accurate units, and captions must be clear and correctly acknowledged.

Referencing and citations

It is important to ensure accurate referencing and a consistent style in citations. The journal will indicate a specific style for articles in certain disciplines

Research ethics and integrity

It is important to ensure that research is conducted with high integrity. This includes accurate referencing, no instances of plagiarism, accurate representation of research results, and no false representation of research limitations. If human participants are used in research, this must be clearly indicated in the article. If animal studies are used in research, welfare statements must also be included.

Conflicts of interest and funding disclosure

Authors should disclose any potential conflicts of interest that may be perceived as influencing the research. They should disclose their funding sources and any sponsor involvement.

Data availability and transparency

Authors should disclose how the data used is available. This will add transparency to the research and may lead to more citations.
